One thing I did notice is the steppers seem to make more noise when idle and the G540 makes winding down noise when the you take you finger off the jog button. After a little more soldering I got the G540 running my little CNC. I decided to make my ony using two plugs. its a female plug!! :~ And I dont have a male to male parallel plug. unplugged the parallel lead from the back of the Xylotex and CRAPPPPPP. opened the Xylotex box disconnected the 24v and connected to the G540, enabled pins 10 to 12 on the G540. So I've soldered all the wires for the 269oz steppers in place and the 2k7 resistors in place. I thought I'd have a go at getting my G540 running using my Xylotex power supply. For a 4 meter length that's a resistance of 0.21 Ohms.Īt 3.5 Amps, The voltage drop is. With regard to the wire size, 22AWG wire has a resistance of 0.016Ohms/ft. If you want to wire your EStop to the disable input, then go ahead, its your call as to whether you think your system is safe. I find it useful to flick the switch, so I can manually adjust the axes. In the diagram, the enable switch can be used to disable the drives. If I publish a diagram, I need to do the EStop properly. In the end, if you have a small machine, a proper EStop may not be needed.
That way, if Mach3 is running awry, by removing the power, you can ensure that power is removed. To ensure that your Estop does what it should, You need to remove power from the drives. For all you know, your machine may continue to to run awry. If the problem is caused by the G540 or Mach3 malfunctioning, then you do not know if pressing the EStop will do anything at all. If you plan to wire your ESTOP switch through the Disable input, then when you punch your EStop button, all you are doing is informing the G540 that you have a serious problem. Additionally, Pin 15, "FAULT (Input to PC)" is made active. Pin 10 on the G540 is labelled "DISABLE Input (ESTOP)" When left open, the drive outs for the 4 drives are disabled.
